Phaseolus vulgaris
When we started trialing the new dry bean varieties from UC Davis (from breeders Travis Parker and Paul Gepts), we had a really hard time deciding which we'd like to continue to grow and offer to share with others. But when an unfortunate threshing accident combined UC Southwest Red and UC Southwest Gold into one batch, we realized we had our winner/winners!
Both of the UC varieties are descended from Zuni Gold, but carry additional disease resistance, adaptation to organic growing environments, and higher yields! We love the look of the red and gold beans together, but you can always separate the seeds into two color groups before growing to isolate the unique varieties too.
